Mary Z Cox Love the laid back organic sound :) my basset hound Charley loves it too . I was Dreamin’ of recording something easy going in 2022–but no one to pick with—no one to record me—then a fiddle friend flew in from Boston & we picked for 6 days straight -everywhere —open mic, guitar store , dog park & 2 concerts—one fancy stage & one blues bar & got some high quality live recordings—not just banjo & fiddle—but mountain dulcimer & fiddle too —basic & fancy —but live ! Lyrics: Don't give me no sugar. Don't give me no spice. Don't give me no apple, however nice. No mashed potato, no restaurant. Just give me your cornbread, mmm that's all I want! Don't give me no Dim sum. No Vindaloo. Don't give me no black eyed peas, no pasta too. No fancy meatball, no pumpkin seed. Just give me your cornbread, that's all I need. Don't give me no bacon, no chicken wing. No bun in the oven, no wedding ring! No pinot grigio, and none of that Dom Perignon, Just give me your cornbread, mmm that's all I want!
En anglais: To raise a house and sing the songs And dance on top of the world. We could make a garden and grow beans And dance by the light of the moon. To understand how the stars cross The sky throughout the year. Life without strife, it's cold at night But the wood stove keeps us warm.

Lyrics: This I IV chord progression has been pretty good to me. And I don't care what they may say about mediocrity. I may not be the best but I am certainly not the worst. I can row a boat and I can run a mile though I may not come in first. I do all my own laundry and I fold all my clothes. Sometimes I might sleep all day if that's just the way it goes. But that don't make me lazy, don't make me nothing but a man. Anyway I don't trust anybody who doesn't even try to dance. But someday I might see those northern lights. Someday I might make tiramisu. Someday I might even own a house. Someday I might be good enough for you. I've got a loving family and friends who treat me right. But oftentimes I'm happiest when I'm alone at night. And I'm walking down the middle, the middle of the road. And it might not be a very straight line but still I'm walking home. You would make my house a home, if you'd be so kind. I always felt that being home was a state of mind.

Amidst the pandemic of 2020 I made some recordings. And during the Great Inoculation of 2021 my best friends helped me augment and add to those recordings. We bonded and connected (and sometimes lamented) in groove.

Let these songs help you focus on the good stuff. The ancient stuff - the cosmos and your body's relation to it. Maybe while hiking or cooking or yoga or eye contact with your dog. Each song on here I wish could be the last song. They're all last songs. Remember that as you listen.

From the liner notes:

We weren't ready for the Industrial Revolution. And we're not ready for the Tech Revolution either. Our minds are turning to mush and our view of the stars is fading. The distractions we get peddled are the flies we gotta swat. I don't have any answers, all I know is that it'll take a really big fly swatter.

Thanks to the brilliant players and best good friends who inspire me. To G. Elwyn and Bill Badger who helped nurture my interest in music early on. Thanks to John Osadnick for the help in making this album and for sharing his vast collection of Old Time records with me.
